Coaching Background:
While in the USA, Peter began to develop his coaching skills under the tutelage of Sean Ross, the owner of Ross Strength and Speed (http://rossstrengthandspeed.com). During his time at Ross Strength and Speed he had the opportunity to coach the weightlifting movements (snatch and C&J), to American High School football athletes and other athletes who attended the gym. He coached his first lifters (Jay Douglass and Nathan Tucker) to their first competitions at the Louisiana Governor Games and Springfield Classic respectively. Since his return to Northern Ireland Peter, along with Robbie Bremner and Timmy Graham, founded GoLift Weightlifting Club and was instrumental in the establishment of their first facility at Valley Business Centre. Currently coaching at the club six days a week with female and male lifters from the youth, senior and masters sections of our club.

Coach Bio:
Peter began training at the age of 18 years of age and was first coached by Jim Kelly and Bruce Bamford at Newtownabbey Weightlifting Club before later splitting his training between Newtownabbey Weightlifting Club and St Gabriel’s Weightlifting Club. During this time Peter was funded though Mary Peter’s Trust, a Gold Sports Bursary from Queen’s University and was a lottery funded athlete to help his development towards the Commonwealth Games.

Sarah is one or our longest serving members and has one several NI senior titles at 63kg. She has also represented the club at the British University Championships

LIZA FLEMING

Liza became a member of the club after her two daughters joined and has really embraced the sport of weightlfiting by completing the Level 1 and Level 2 coaching certificates and also passing the technical official exam. Liza is now a regular coach during the youth sessions.

DANIEL O'HARE
Coaching Qualifications:
BWL Level 1 Assistant club coach
Daniel has been at the club since 2014 and has accumulated a lot of experience within this period. He is the current Northern Ireland record holder in the old 105+ kg category and is also the current record holder in the new 109+ kg category. In addition he currently hold several U20 and U23 British records in the new 109+ category

KARL McCLEAN
Coaching Qualifications:
BWL Level 1 Assistant club coach
Karl started out with GoLift in 2016 and has rapidly progressed in the sport leading to him representing Northern Ireland at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He has won the British U23 championships in 2017 and 2018 and currently holds the British U23 73kg records in snatch, C&J and total.
